I get sheer delight after treating a patient and seeing the relief on their face after suffering with some kind of muscular pain:
“I can move”
“I feel like a weight has been lifted”
“I could just sleep”
These are just a few of the phrases I have heard over the years. I see a range of people on a daily basis, from all walks of life and all age groups. These include amateur and professional athletes, office workers, delivery drivers, farmers, hospital staff, grandparents, students. . .the list goes on!
What most of these people have in common is they probably should have come to see me sooner than they did. My question to them is usually: “Would you leave your car this long if something wasn’t right?” The answer is usually no!
So why do people wait? Why do people put off treatment they are in need of? Massage should not be seen a luxury if you are suffering with muscular pain, being in pain effects all aspects of our life.
Sports and remedial massage is available for everyone and anyone. I use similar techniques on sporting injuries as I do with postural tension and repetitive strain, however I tailor each session specifically to my client.
Our massage services are hugely beneficial for aches, pains and unwanted muscular tension – however you ended up with it! Using deep tissue techniques, I am able to stretch out muscles to relieve pain, pressure and tightness. This can help to increase mobility, improve posture or enhance sport performance. Massage can be a one off treatment or form part of a maintenance plan to help keep tension away and your muscles flexible, making your training or long days at a desk more bearable.
Eliminating muscular tension has huge benefits on our mental state too; if pain is reduced – we feel better! Feeling better mentally makes us more energised, happier, relaxed, and calmer. Your mind will be more open to unexpected situations and will be able to deal with them head on. Let’s face it; with what we’ve all had thrown at us over the last year, feeling our best physically and mentally is one thing we can control.
Finding the time can be difficult and I can relate – I’m a working mum of two. However when treatment is readily available, I don’t believe anyone should be living with muscular pain considering the effects it can have on our lives.
So whatever the reason for not getting treatment sooner, book in and be good to yourself…you wouldn’t leave your car!
